Throughout the Trent University school year, The Central produces a variety of publications, products and events which are accessed by the student population .The following is an overview of the advertising and sponsorship opportunities available to businesses. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

THE STUDENT HANDBOOK & DAY PLANNER

Distribution for 2011: 4500 students

The handbook and day planner is distributed for free to our student base. It is a very popular item that is widely used. We expect that we will produce 5000-5500 planners for the 2012-2013 year. It is a small book, approximately 5"x 8" and 150 pages in length. Included is information about Trent University and The Central and available services, important phone numbers, a planner/calendar and a student discount map of Peterborough. This handbook is viewed and used throughout the year, making it an ideal place to advertise to our student members.

Advertising slots in the planner vary from divider ads, full page ads, half-page ads, inside cover ads to flyers/inserts. Rates range from $450.00 to $1000.00 depending on the advertising slot. Most are printed in full colour, although there are black & white options. If you are interested in being the exclusive advertiser for your specific type of product or service in our student handbook, you can be an exclusive advertiser for an additional $200.00. Please keep in mind that all of these advertising opportunities are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.

THE STUDENT DISCOUNT MAP

Distribution for 2011: 4500+ students

In our 2011-2012 year, The Central produced for the first time a complete student discount map that was included in the student handbook/day planner. This map included a large snapshot of the downtown core and identified outside locations where Trent students have access to important discounts. Any store or business offering a minimum of a 10% discount was pin-pointed on the map free of charge. A legend on the backside of the map included the address and details of the discount that each store or business offers. This was a great opportunity for local businesses that were able to gain exposure free of cost, as well as a great tool for students who were excited about the discounts available to them.

We've received great feedback on this publication, and have decided to expand on this opportunity in the following year. In the 2012-2013 year, there will be spaces available on the student discount map for enlarged blurbs about certain businesses that would like to take this opportunity to highlight the products and/or services that they offer to students. Each space will be available for a set price and will be assigned on a first-come-first-serve basis. These locations will also be highlighted in colour on the student discount map legend. The student discount map presents a unique advertising opportunity for local businesses and stores to become noted by both returning and incoming Trent students that may not be aware of the discounts that are available to them.

INTRODUCTORY SEMINAR WEEK (ISW)

Audience: Approximately 2500 new students

ISW is a week-long event for new and transfer students starting Trent each September. During the week these new students attend large events, interact with other new students, and orient themselves to the campus and downtown Peterborough. This is one of the most popular sponsorship opportunities for businesses and there are numerous opportunities for you to get involved, and to get your name out there, including:

IntroFest
IntroFest is one of our biggest events of the year where we host a large concert that is FREE for Trent University students. In attendance are many first year students, upper-year students and members of the community! This September we hosted Down With Webster at an entertainment venue in downtown Peterborough called The Venue. The event was a huge success and students raved about the concert for months!

Clubs and Groups Day
This day is dedicated to showing off the many student clubs and groups that are available here at Trent University. From 10am to 3pm, students are able to wander the stands and enjoy the day on the podium outside of Bata Library. We usually invite a local bar to DJ the event for a set price; they are also welcome to speak directly with students and distribute flyers.

First Year Barbeque
On the Thursday of ISW, all of the cafeterias are closed, so most students attend this barbeque and watch the varsity soccer game while they eat! It's always a good day, and fun is had by all! We welcome many types food and drink donations!

The Great Race
As a final "hurrah" for ISW! Trent University colleges compete in a campus-wide race which ends at the Athletics Field where fellow college-mates are waiting at the finish line! Rain or shine, students are always there to cheer on their college!

EXAM CARE PACKAGES

AUDIENCE: 200-300 STUDENTS
COST: YOUR PRODUCT

In both semesters each school year, The Central distributes Exam Care Packages to students during the last week of regularly scheduled class. Exam Care Packages are free to all Trent University students and will be distributed on a first-come-first-serve basis.

In past years, the packages have consisted of both bulk purchased items and donated products from various businesses and corporations. Some of the products donated to these packages have been personal hygiene products such as toothpaste, school supplies such as post-it notes and pens, and treats such as cookies, candies, and chocolate.

The purpose of these packages is to provide students with a boost during the high-stress points of the school year. As well, these packages serve as a great opportunity for local businesses to promote their services. We are currently looking for donations for our Summer Exam Care Packages and are open to receive any tangible donated items (we suggest approximately 300 units) from businesses who are interested in getting something into the hands of our students. We welcome coupons, small fliers or business cards from participating businesses and we will ensure that these are distributed with donated items.
