This workshop guides participants through the guiding principles of consensus decision-making and the arguments it presents against representative democracy. It looks at the conditions under which consensus thrives and advocates for instituting them (slower organizing, non-hierarchical structures). This workshop aims to inspire the spirit of the consensus as a process that can be redefined to fit the needs of the group and the moment. We talk about the ways in which decisions might be made at a meeting or in a boardroom and then we turn our sights to how consensus can function on the fly at an action or occupation.

Awiiyuk is a queer/two-spirited Michif halfbreed living in Dish with One Spoon Territory. She had been a community organizer, with a commitment to anarchist theory and practice, for 9 years in Southern Ontario. Though her heart lies in the defense of the land, she has also dedicated energy towards the fight against gentrification, patriarchy, and animal oppression.
