EXCALIBURNT OUT

What is Excaliburnt Out?

Excaliburnt Out is a Trent University student-led campaign seeking to address over-enrolment's dire impacts on the student body. Whether you’re experiencing the housing crisis, over-booked mental health resources, food insecurity, insufficient supports, or inaccessible classrooms without hybrid learning, that’s because of the Administration’s choice to increase enrolment past the capacity that resources at Trent can handle.

The University’s decision to over-enrol and internationalize didn’t account for how it would impact the quality of students’ livelihoods, well-being, or safety. Profit should never discount quality education. Together we will lobby the Administration to be accountable and take action.

Why should you care about Excaliburnt Out?

We the students of Trent University deserve better. The Administration must rise up to the occasion of their enrolment increase. If not, the student body will suffer the dire consequences of already strained resources. If the Administration wants an enrolment increase, WE demand sufficient resources:

  • Increased Mental Health Resources

  • Quality EDID

  • Accessible Hybrid Learning

  • Accountability for the Housing Crisis

  • Sustainable Tuition

This campaign is research, advocacy, and arts-based, ensuring that demands and recommendations are rooted in impactful cumulative evidence and student voice.

This is your student-advocacy campaign, and together we can make a difference by fighting for a better Trent.

If you are interested and want to bolster the cause, make sure you sign our Excaliburnt Out petition. The petition aids in demonstrating how many people are impacted and agree with the call for action, accountability, and change.

Let us know if you’re feeling Excaliburnt Out! You can fill out the TCSA’s Membership Feedback Survey; this will help in compiling the report that will be sent to the administration and additional corresponding university departments as a means to state the case for how they must “challenge the way THEY think” and improve the quality of life and experience at Trent University.

Students deserve better. Serious concerns require serious action, and students will rise to the occasion. Trent, you bata step it up.

EXCALAGALA

When: Friday, March 10th, 2023 in the Student Centre Event Space
Time: 5:00pm to 9:00pm, Drop-in. Catered by Black Honey.

How have university resources impacted you? Do you feel supported by the university? How should Trent change for the better? We want to showcase how Trent's over-enrolment and insufficient resources have impacted the student experience.

Trent's administration, departments, stakeholders, and students are invited to this event to sign onto the initiative and deepen their understanding of the student experience.

Why Arts-Based Advocacy? This form of advocacy serves as an accessible means to raise awareness of the circumstances of students who are impacted daily by over-enrollment and the university's insufficient resources. Viewers can interact with the stories and work presented at the exhibit. We hope that the artwork will facilitate  meaningful dialogues to further understand the implications Administration’s decisions have on students' lived experiences at Trent.

The Excalagala will instigate action alongside the Excaliburnt Out report, and serve as a starting point for conversations to address and enact lasting change. We are Excaliburnt Out. Let's challenge the way they think and fight for a better Trent.
