Trent Philosophy Society Coffeehouse: A Counterpublic on Gender-Affirming Care

  • TCSA 1680 West Bank Drive, Trent Student Centre 2.15, Trent University Peterborough Canada (map)

The Trent Philosophy Society is hosting a Coffeehouse on Gender-Affirming Care on January 30th at 7 PM in the Sadleir House Lecture Hall. This event serves as a counter-public—a space for discourse outside mainstream rhetorical norms, created by and for marginalized communities.

Our focus for the evening is gender-affirming care. Countering the trend towards restrictive politics and laws, this event will highlight the importance of expanding and maintaining access to gender-affirming care—social, psychological, behavioural, and medical care focused on affirming individuals’ gender identities. Attendees can expect to consider public perceptions of and discourse surrounding gender-affirming care and discuss strategies to promote effective advocacy.

Dr. Nicole Fice and Dr. Byron Stoyles will open with brief remarks, but the conversation is for you to engage directly with peers. Bring your friends, curiosity, and an open mind for a thought-provoking event. See you there!
