Race Issues in Healthcare

Join LEC Cabinet on Saturday, November 13th from 1pm-3pm for a Zoom Panel Discussion where we will discuss race issues in the healthcare system with guest speakers Mackenzie Taylor and Ethel Kirabo Nalule!

About Mackenzie Taylor: 

Hi my name is Mackenzie Taylor (she/her) I am an Indigenous student in my third year of Psychology. I hope one day to be able to work in counselling with Indigenous youth. I am a junior firekeeper this year. 

About Ethel Nalule:

Ethel Nalule is a Trent and LEC Alumni, and has her Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science and Psychology. She was a former Minister of Issues for Lady Eaton Cabinet, former Vice President of Student Health and Wellness for the Trent Central Student Association and former facilitator for Trent’s Black Student Peer Support Group. 

She is currently doing her Masters Degree in Community Psychology with a Black Psychology and Multicultural Mental Health Emphasis. And is currently doing research on the psychological effects of covid-19 exposure, along with her thesis research on African colonization and grief.

In the past she has spoken at parliament hill, fighting for medical guideline changes for tick-borne illnesses, and has helped run multiple workshops/events/talks for high school, university students and various communities on topics ranging from health care, anti-oppression, mental health, disability, African solidarity building, climate justice and methods of decolonizing. She is passionate about all things global health justice and global Indigenous solidarity.
