The Trent Central Student Association is pleased to host the National Book Launch for Women on the Ballot.
Women on the Ballot: Pathways to Political Power deals with women politicians, politics, and the kind of society we want. The result of countless hours of interviews and discussions with more than 90 women in politics, the book is designed to encourage, equip, and empower women to step up and run for political office and be heard. Women on the Ballot addresses in unflinching terms why it matters in building a just future to have women’s voices heard and women’s perspectives represented in policy debates.
Panelists include:
• Chief Kelly LaRocca, Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation

About the Book:
Women on the Ballot is filled with moving stories, striking insights, and practical advice from a diverse range of women in politics, including Eva Aariak, Niki Ashton, Jean Augustine, Pat Carney, Libby Davies, Andrea Horwath, Iqra Khalid, Elizabeth May, Valérie Plante, Lisa Raitt, and Kathleen Wynne — to name just a few of the federal, provincial, municipal, and Indigenous political trailblazers profiled in this book. McGregor finds out what drove these women, what sustained them, and, in some cases, what defeated them.
Author, Betsy McGregor, is a passionate champion of women in politics. Former Canadian prime minister Kim Campbell described McGregor as “a truly strong role model and an inspiring mentor for future young women leaders.” Roberta Bondar, Canada’s first woman in space, said, “With Betsy’s experience in politics and women’s leadership, she’s well equipped to write this book encouraging women to get involved in the political arena to improve our world.”
Organized into four sections, Women on the Ballot presents a wide range of topics focused on helping women make the decision to enter the political fray and provides strategies to help them survive — and thrive — once they have. It is a book about women who saw things as they were, knew change was needed, and entered into Canadian politics.
The best guides for women on their journey in politics are the women who have gone ahead.
Women on the Ballot is a must-read for every concerned Canadian citizen, including women considering a run for office — and those who aren’t.
